Sekyiwa ‘Set’ Shakur is a Philanthropic Enthusiast and a fierce Heart Leader with over 20 years experience serving in Family Outreach, Program Coordination and Youth Creative Arts Development. She is also very passionate about activism and is a dedicated Mental Health & Wellness Advocate. She is a spirited influencer who embodies courage, strength and compassion. Set continuously strives for personal & professional growth while encouraging others to stand up for peace, truth and goodness.
She is an original board member of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation, established in 1996. Her role and commitment has grown over the years from being the Student Liaison & Program Coordinator to her current role where she continues to serve 23 years later, now as the President and Acting CEO of the foundation. In this role her core responsibilities are in developing compliant fundraising practices and serving as an ambassador for the organization by advancing its mission within the community.
Early in her life, Set began her work as a human rights advocate by being the child of Activists and Black Panthers, Mutulu and Afeni Shakur. Throughout her life she faced many challenges yet she remained dedicated to her positive virtues of creativity and maintaining peace.
Set’s roots range from New York City to Marin City to Atlanta, GA. As a young lady, she became a teen mother of two children but nonetheless she graduated High School early and at the top of her class. She later attended Clark Atlanta University and while there she began volunteering at the Phyllis Wheatley YMCA. She was subsequently hired as the Program Coordinator for Teens On The Rise, an HIV & Pregnancy Prevention program. This work sparked her own journey into child advocacy and as a result, Set continues to speak with young people all over the world on topics including peer pressure, sexual health and drug-addiction. Additionally she has dedicated her heart and time to aiding battered women’s homeless shelters that offer employment assistance, spiritual education and health care to women and children in need.
Set is a renowned public speaker discussing issues and solutions surrounding National Global Healing, International Peace, Prisoners Rights, Expanded Access to Mental Healthcare and ending Human Trafficking.
In addition to her advocacy initiatives, Set enjoys serving as Creative Advisor to Amaru Entertainment, which was founded by her mother, Afeni Shakur, to produce the unreleased work of her late brother and celebrated icon, Tupac Shakur.
